As a Senior Accountant at Cairo Development, you will play a key role in supporting all financial aspects of our multi-family construction projects. You will work closely with the Controller, Sr Directors, Project Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, billing, compliance with accounting standards, and the effective management of project budgets. Initially, you will play an integral role in the implementation of our new ERP system, Jonas Premier.  Your primary objectives will encompass a wide range of essential tasks and responsibilities crucial to the overall success of our company’s financial endeavours.


REPORTS TO: Controller



  • Monitor project budgets, track expenses, and reconcile project costs with actual expenditures.
  • Assist with the trade contractor/supplier invoice process for multiple concurrent projects, focusing on efficiency and accuracy.
  • Compile and review monthly client claim to guarantee precise and error-free billing.
  • Take an active role in the current ERP implementation and data migration tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Management team to prepare monthly financial statements and schedules and prepare month-end reporting for the Executive team.
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger and ensure proper recording of financial transactions by accounting principles.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Process all overhead costs and perform monthly reconciliations, including project costs, bank accounts, and general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare documentation and assist with external audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Assist in preparing financial forecasts and budgets to support project planning and decision-making.
  • Conduct cost analysis for construction projects, identify cost-saving opportunities, and provide project team recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement best practices within the finance department.
  • Undertake miscellaneous administrative tasks as needed to maintain smooth operations.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by actively communicating ideas for enhancing company processes with a positive and constructive attitude.
  • Deliver project information to stakeholders, ensuring their requirements are addressed promptly and cost-effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support business objectives.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company, always upholding the Cairo Development values and reputation.
  • Mentor and support project accounting team members.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification or candidate is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong background in construction accounting or real estate development preferred. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience with progress claims and an understanding of project accounting fundamentals and related legislation (prompt pay, etc.)
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of products (including SharePoint, Teams, Excel, etc.)
  • Previous experience with ERP or related applications, including during implementation, will be a strong asset.  Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience using Sage and/or Jonas Premier.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and construction accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills.
